Ornamento y Delito (Ornament and Crime)
Solo Exhibition
Carmen Araujo Arte
Caracas, Venezuela
August 28–November 6, 2022
The individual exhibition entitled Ornament and Crime is conceived as a scenario composed of decorative objects in which the ornament functions as an intertextual image. This creates multiple visual associations within and beyond what it illustrates: the difficulties and misfortunes faced by displaced people and migrants, diametrically opposed to the comforts of the upper classes. In this gesture, the artist raises the certainty that the “postcolonial” world is a perpetual consumer of modernity and its errors; those in which there is always a subaltern subject who is greatly harmed, whether for social, ideological, race, or gender reasons.
